Located between Knoxville and Chattanooga in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains is Watts Bar Lake. It is a reservoir on the Tennessee River with over 770 miles of shoreline. This man-made lake was completed in 1942 and has since attracted visitors drawn to its scenic views and wide array of activities.
Fishing is one of the most popular activities at Watts Bar Lake. There you can catch bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill. The lake has been named as one of the top ten bass fishing lakes in the country by Bassmaster magazine.
Boating is another favorite pastime at Watts Bar Lake. There are numerous public boat ramps and marinas scattered throughout the lake. Whether you prefer kayaking, canoeing, or cruising on a pontoon boat, there are plenty of opportunities to get out on the water and soak in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and forests.
The lake was named after Watt Island, a small island that was submerged when the reservoir was filled. The island was named after Watt Rodgers, a former landowner in the area.
